Reiki For People and Pets Reiki and More….. Mary Cupps Wellness Consultant, Reiki Master/Teacher Reiki & More Treatments What is Reiki? How can it Reiki Help me? Reiki is an ancient system of natural healing that was re-discovered in the early 1900’s by Mikao Usui. Reiki (pronounced ray key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Reiki has been described as deeply relaxing, nurturing, loving acceptance, inner peace, security and joy. The client may also experience calm or a feeling of well-being. Reiki is different for everyone and must be experienced to be fully appreciated and understood. What are the benefits of Reiki? Alleviated pain Reiki is becoming recognized by doctors and other health professionals as being safe and complementary to other forms of treatment. It is used in many hospitals to relax patients before surgery and to lessen bleeding. It will also promote accelerated healing after surgery. What is a Reiki treatment like? Most people reach a very deep state of relaxation. The practitioner places his or her hands lightly and gently on various locations of the body (energy centers or Chakras). The client lies on a table and remains fully clothed. The client may feel a sensation of heat or tingling from the practitioner’s hands. Reiki has been known to be effective in cases that did not respond to other forms of treatment. Who can benefit from Reiki? Everyone from babies to senior citizens, even plants and animals. Mother’s enjoy the relief from back pain etc. before the baby is born. Reiki eraces much of the trauma of birth for both mother and baby. Reiki babies are very happy, relaxed children. Seniors enjoy relief from aches and pains of age. Who can learn Reiki? Everyone…..from young children to adults. Once Reiki is activated in a person, they have it for life. The ability to use Reiki energy is passes on during Attunement or Empowerment given by a Reiki Master/Teacher. The attunement allows the student to improve health and the quality of life for himself and his loved ones, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Giving Reiki does not deplete your own energy as some therapies do. Reiki practioners cannot prescribe medicines or diagnose illnesses. Always contact your physician or healthcare provider when necessary. Reiki--the gentle healing art. Animals and Plants love Reiki Plants and animals love Reiki for the same reasons that people do. Plants thrive, growing larger and healthier with Reiki treatments. Animals are happier, calmer and healthier with Reiki Being more acclimated to their natural surroundings, animals respond wonderfully to Reiki energy. It keeps them healthy and heals them when they are sick or injured and has been known to prolong our pets lives. Reiki for Animals Strengthens the immune system We can do Reiki before and after surgery to reduce pain bleeding, promote healing, reduce the physical and emotional stress of the situation for the pet and its owner. Reiki can be used when introducing a new pet into a household where other pets are present. Makes everyone calmer and more accepting of each other. Can be used to tame feral cats/or kittens. Beaming Reiki (level 2) at wild, frightened kittens have been known to calm them and enable a person to pick them up within just a few days. Most cats love Reiki, but a few do not like the feel of the Reiki energy on their body, but are very accepting of the energy sent from a distance--a few feet away or miles away. Sometimes it is not possible to do hands on Reiki--the “patient” is too far away, a Reiki practitioner cannot be there in person, the animal has an injury that is too painful to be touched, or the patient is a fish or other animal that cannot be touched or held. Distant Reiki works well as hands-on or in-person treatment. A cat was having bladder problem, some blood in his urine and feeling the urge to use his litter box every two minutes. Refusing hands on treatment, and the vet’s office being closed-his frustrated owner (a Reiki Master) did a 15 minute distant treatment from another room. The cat calmed down, had no more obvious urges, went to his bed and slept for several hours. Another cat was being treated for jaundice by a vet. The pet stayed in the animal hospital for several days. Finally the vet sent the cat home offering very little hope of recovery telling the owner to bring him in for a check-up in three days, if he was still alive. He said not much could be done for jaundice. The owner preformed Reiki several times a dayfor the cat and in three days most of the jaundice was gone--the cat was fully recovered within a week. Reiki can be used on almost any problem. Once you have learned Try it on anything-house training problems, jealousy, anger, temperament problems, health problems, disease, allergies, and more. Domesticated animals experience many of the same problems as their human owners do--cancer, arthritis, rheumatism, fear, jealousy, etc. We make house calls. Reiki is easily learned, by adults as well as children. Level 1 is mostly for physical, hands-on treatment. Level 2 adds the ability to give emotional assistance, as well as distant treatments. Classes are held periodically or private teaching is available. Reiki practitioners are not doctors or veterinarians. They cannot diagnose or prescribe medications. For serious situations, please consult your vet, or (in the case of humans) your doctor or other health practitioner first.
